Test oracle DB problems

Post by Gilali »

Hi everybody,

I have an "incompréhensible" :o situation with Hmon and monitoring oracle data base using tnsnames.ora.

on my server, I have HMon 7.52 installed, oracle client 10.0.2. and TOAD for oracle( is an industry-leading, proven database development and administration tool) Toad is working too with the same tnsnames.ora installed in directory \oracle\product\10.2.0\client_2\NETWORK\ADMIN

I have 26 oracles DB defined in tnsnames, but when I add an DB oracle test, I see only 15 names available in tnsnames counting 26 DB :-? . when I scan my server, I have only 1 tnsnames.ora file defined!!!

When I'm using TOAD and I want to connect to one DB, I can see all the 26 db availables.

I will precise that is not the first file. I've modified it to add and delete some DB specifications, but when I use Hmon again, there is no change in it!!!!!!

Did Hmon generate something with tnsnames.ora ?

If anyone has an idea ...... I will appreciate.

Thanks.

Do you mean you open Test Properties dialog, click "drop-down" button on "Server (TNS Alias)" combo box and you do not see some names in the list?
Thats because this list is just a history list of used names. If you want to create Oracle test to check some database and you do not see name in the list, simply type that name by hands.

Hi,

First of all, thanks for your response. :)

Yes, it's exactly what I mean.
Thats because this list is just a history list of used names
Is this history list is created by Hmon when I use it for the fist time to check Oracle database ?? If yes, where I can found it or can I erase it or replace it ?
If you want to create Oracle test to check some database and you do not see name in the list, simply type that name by hands.
I do this and ......... I 've 0ra-03134 error due to the compatibility between oracle client version and Database version.

Is it possible that Hmon can check compatibility between client and database version before it shows tnsnames and by this way, it shows only database that it can be join and hide others ??

Thanks for your help.

This history list uses items that you have created for other Oracle tests before. If you remove some Oracle tests, items will be removed from "history" list as well.

HostMonitor does not show any databases by itself. It show list of items that were created by you (or your colleague).
