Monitor the mail server.

Post by Stone_ll »

there is a problem...
I do not know if HM can do this:Sending a mail every special time to the mail server. It can do the alert action if it have not received that mail.
Just as I use the mail account Stone@123.com to send test mail to the same mail address Stone@123.com.so it can be test by HM.
HM can do it ? ^_^
best wishes!!!

I think, you may use "Mail relay" test method.
Quote from the manual:
http://www.ks-soft.net/hostmon.eng/mfra ... #mailrelay
====================================
Mail Relay test method was designed to monitor a chain of mail servers. HostMonitor sends an e-mail through the specific mail server and then checks when the message becomes available in target mailbox. HostMonitor sends special mail using SMTP protocol and checks the target mailbox using POP3 or IMAP protocol.

Could you please explain what exactly means "the wrong alarm"?
What is the status of the test? Bad? Unknown? No answer? What do you see in Reply field of the test?

Just so:HM mail the alarm to me , but I go to recheck:
1,I log into p2psystem mailbox and I just see the test mail
sending by HM.Like that----
This is MailRelay test mail
Advanced Host Monitor

2,Send a mail from Z-7@163.com to
StoneZhang@p2psystem.cn manually. It is
normal,StoneZhang@p2psystem.cn has received that mail
send by me.so I said that HM give me a mistake. But
sometimes.
What is the status of the test? Bad? Unknown? No answer? What do you see in Reply field of the test?

the test icon changed red , and the status is bad.

maybe the problem is in the course of HM'checking.it check the target mailbox received the test mail or not.

Waiting for your reply..thanks..

and the status is bad
Do you see any message in Reply field of the test?
If HostMonitor cannot login to the server, it should display error description in Reply field.
Bad status and no message in Reply field means the following, HostMonitor was able to connect to the server but it cannot find the mail.

May be you are using too short time interval for the test?
Which of the following options do you use for this test?
- Alert when incoming mail server does not receive mail within N sec
- Alert when incoming mail server does not receive mail before next checking cycle

Also, what version of HostMonitor do you use?
Do you use POP3 or IMAP protocol?
maybe the problem is in the course of HM'checking.it check the
target mailbox received the test mail or not.
Sorry, I do not understand you :(

No,just only the "Bad" status atfer the test being colored red.

yes,HM has connected to the server and I can see the mail sent by myself(after the alarm I want to chech the truth. So I send a mail for test manually ).

I select the latter one. And I use the frequency is 30 minutes one time.So there is enough time for HM loging to the server 、sending mail、the mail traslating from one server to another.
Also, what version of HostMonitor do you use?
Do you use POP3 or IMAP protocol?
The Version is 7.1
I use POP3 protocol.

Sorry, I do not understand you :(
That means: I think it is the reason----Something error in the course of the HM checking the mail sent by HM.
Because I can see the mail tested by myself manually.

My Englosh is too poor . Sorry for you to understand difficultly. ^_^

I have tried that link but cannot download the file :(
You may send screen shot to support@ks-soft.net
May we get access to your server for testing? You may export test settings into text file and send it to support@ks-soft.net as well.
