RMA action to transfer file to HM

Post by Wabiloo »

I'm running active RMAs on a number of machines (behind firewalls and NAT), that report to a central HM server. No other access to the remote machines, and no access to the internet or email for the remote machines either (very tight security, as they are machines without users).

I need a way for the RMA to transfer a file to the HM server, in such a way that the HM server can have automatic access to it afterwards.

So, the RMA would have a test, and if the test fails, would transfer a specific file to the HM server. Another test on the HM server would then be used to check the file on the server itself (using external tool).
I'm doing this to take screenshots of the desktop and compare them to previous screenshots.

Would that be possible as a feature?

I don't think we will do that. At least not now.

I'm just thinking off the top of my head, but couldn't an action profile be set up to transfer the file using an external program, (FTP?). It would need to be able to initiate the client/HMA and the server/HM actions, in order to send/receive which I'm not sure is possible, and I'm still trying to master all this great products capabilities. :D

Also, if ports are limited due to a firewall restriction it might even be achievable by using the HMA management port, assuming HMA Manager isn't running and has it locked already. Either that or simply open a port for this explicit purpose.

Anybody else want to chime in here? I feel like this is achievable.

Sure, you may install FTP server on your host (e.g. system where HostMonitor ir running) and use "Execute external program" action to launch FTP client on system where RMA is running.
