I have installed HostMon 3.12 on W2K Server and I use RDP access (MS Terminal Server Remote Administration mode) to control it.
HostMon is started under local system account, "allow service to interact with desktop" is checked and "icon in the system tray" is enabled. As you already mentioned HostMon does not support MS Terminal Server, probably in both modes, 2-licences-only Remote Administration and "full" Application mode.
Is it true that I have only two possibilities how to change HostMon configuration in my situation?
a) stop service, run as a desktop application, modify settings, close application, start service
b) use some other remote administration software like VNC, PCAnywhere etc (unfortunately less secure and/or slower) to be able to view icon in a system tray and modify settings via icon
What happens if I do not stop the service and run desktop application concurently? Do both processes try to run independent? Unfortunately both use the same logs?
My server is far away in a hosting centre, that's why I am not able to work on a console very often.

Radek
Configuring HostMon when started as a service
You are right, MS Terminal Server is a problem for HostMonitor. But I made some workaround, added new command line parameter "/ShowServiceWindow". You can download patch http://www.ks-soft.net/download/hm313.zip, and use command "hostmon.exe /ShowServiceWindow" to configure HostMonitor in service mode. Option "allow service to interact with desktop" must be enabled, but option "icon in the system tray" is not indispensable anymore.

Radek,
I am sorry. At first I think problem is easy to resolve, and I even did not install Terminal Server to test the program (it works when you logon interactive). But problem with TS much more complicated and resolution need more coding, so, I need more time.

if you purchace a little program called service+ from http://www.activeplus.com you can run hostmonitor as a service on either a nt box or a w2k i have been using it on a wun 4 box for over a year and love it. plus you can remotely start and stop the services using the service+ on a remote computer

I dunno if its possible in your setup, but to remotely configure hostmon, i use a program called dameware remote control, it will log in as if you where on console, and you dont even need to go to the remote machine to installe the remote client, you can push it from your remote machine if needed.
i hate advertising...but....try it at http://www.dameware.com
