SNMP Status Enumeration

Post by eurodrew555 »

Hi there,

I'd like to request that an SNMP status enumeration feature be added to HostMonitor.

At present if we monitor an OID such as 1.3.6.1.4.1.3582.1.1.3.1.4.0.0.0 (Physical Drive Status) I setup the test to alert if status <> 3 which is online status.

I then add into our comments all the possible statuses (which takes ages to copy/paste from the MIB for each test) so that if the status changes we can see in the body of the email what it means.

For example in the above OID the possible statuses are:

ready(1) online(3) failed(4) rebuild(5) hotspare(6) nondisk(20)

The request therefore is that HostMonitor can enumerate the status so rather than raising an alert of status 4 it can actually show the enumerated status of failed(4)

We can then add MIBS and know that we will know what the status means (for traps as well) without having to resort to manually adding in every status to the comments. And as we can't add this to traps, if you receive a trap with a status change you just have to manually look into the problem, without knowing specifically what it is right there and then.

All the full statuses are right there in the MIB, so it would just be a cause of enumerating it from the MIB somehow.

Regards,
Andrew

H'm  I cannot say we will implement this soon. May be in version 7.80...

I'd also like to see this - great for Director/RSA and CIM agent monitoring
