Manual refresh

Post by mos-eisley »

Something is puzzling me :D

I have ran HostMonitor very seriously for 3-4 month now - with a little over 1200 tests all in all and 110 agent distributed.

A setup like that give a lot of RMA errors from the agents, but what is strange is , that a manual refresh of the error through the RCC interface never (and I mean never !!!!) reproduces the error agin, if is not "correct", e.g. not logfile found, service down etc. For me it seems, that manual refresh works in a different way than the auto refresh??

Test execution works exactly in the same way. I assume some device (server, network router or some software) cannot handle higher load. It works fine when HostMonitor performs single test but fails when HostMonitor executes several tests at the same time.

Could you please provide some information about this problem?
1) what exactly means "a lot of RMA errors"? HostMonitor sets Unknown status and shows some error description in Reply field? What exactly error?
2) what kind of test shows this error?
3) RMA version? HostMonitor version?
4) target OS? Windows 2000? XP? 2003? Service Pack? Linux? Solaris?
5) do you have any 3rd party software (like antivirus monitor, personal firewall, non-standard winsock components) installed on the systems where HostMonitor or RMA is running? on target system?

Most of Your questions are quite hard to answer, with 1200 tests and more than 100 agents, all in all I have more someting like 300000 test within 24 hours :D I have had to disable complete logging and remove "Unknown = bad" on most tests...

Hostmonitor is 6.80
Most agents are linux 1.25, rest 1.22 ( both "fails", but 1.25 much less than 1.22 )
I have Windows 2003, RedHat Enterprise,Debian, CentOs as clients.

So I dont have the data for giving You a qualified feedback /at the moment anyway), and if is is a load issue, it must be on the RMA client machine, not the network :o

I dont see this as critical, only as a strange behavior. I have tried to use the -v swith on the agent, but the verbose logging does not say anything about such errors. I will say the third party software can be excluded, generally we have little or none.

You may try to scan log file searching for Unknown status and check error description in Reply field of this record.
