Hello,
I have HostMonitor that crashes inexplicably without leaving traces and sometimes it does this 3 times a day.
We have a little under 1400 tests running and logging to file and in a db via some personalized procedures.
I cannot stop the log on the db for statistical reasons.
We have been using both the db log and statistics since version 4.86 without any problems. Now we're using version 6.10 and I have tried to install it on all kinds of different servers without any success.
There are between 400 and 700 handles with peaks of 1800 at times and sometimes I had to kill the application manually and relaunch.
Is it possible to get an executable that can trace more info to give you?
Please help! Regards, etc.
random crash
Could you please provide more information?
- Windows version?
- Service Pack?
- What ODBC driver do you use for ODBC logging?
- Do you have installed some antivirus monitors, personal firewall, content monitoring software? Non stanard winsock components?
- HostMonitor is started as service or application?
Can you check resource usage for each process and especially for HostMonitor? You may use standard Windows Task Manager to check Handles, GDI and USER objects. What the total resource usage?
Version 6.10 could lead to GDI resource leakage under some circumstances. Theoretically this may lead to crash. Problem was fixed in version 6.20.
BTW Latest version - 6.54, latest Beta 6.72
Regards
Alex

Why do you have to kill the application? 400-700 handles its Ok.There are between 400 and 700 handles with peaks of 1800 at times and sometimes I had to kill the application manually and relaunch

I only killed HostMonitor when it reached peaks of around 1800 because it gave all perfcounter controls as unknown (I used external perfobj mode)
If I tried to select Option, it told me it didn't have the resources to execute the command or check the handles, GDI, etc...
O.S. : Windows 2000 Professional SP4
ODBC : SQL ver 2000.85.1022.00
Antivirus : TrendMicro OfficeScan & Personal Firewall
Hostmonitor is started as an application
We have tried using higher releases of HostMonitor, but they behaved worse! Is there any chance of getting a version that will take a trace or memory dump, instead of just imploding without a trace?
Hope this answers some questions.

When this error occurs again, could you please check resource usage for each process? You may use standard Windows Task Manager to check Handles, GDI and USER objects. This can be the reason of the crash. Antivirus monitors (real-time monitors) and personal firewalls change system behaviour and often leads to various problems. Please install HostMonitor on clean system.Antivirus: TrendMicro OfficeScan & Personal Firewall
If system (or some 3rd party application) terminates process, this process cannot do anythingIs there any chance of getting a version that will take a trace or memory dump, instead of just imploding without a trace?
