Auto complete bug

Post by Kapz »

Hi !

HM6.70Beta on Win2003 Server:

I currently monitor something on an existing server and now I need to monitor the exact same thing on a new server - so I simply copy the test.

The test is called "JKPorteTS01 Action: Count Exchange Licenses"

Now I just need to adjust "Test by" to the appropiate agent and change the test name to reflect the new server.
However, when I mark the first 11 characters containing name of the old server - JKPorteTS01 - and want to replace it with the new name - HDSupportTS01 - HostMonitor replaces the entire test name and suggests an existing test name e.g. "HDSupportTS01 Print Spooler Service".

This obviously doesn't save me a lot of time :-?

I suppose you are able to fix this but while you're at it perhaps you could consider builting in an "undocumented" feature called UseAutoComplete=Yes/No ?

Thanks in advance !

Don't see any bug here. If you select some test in combo box and then type, combo box searches for suitable item in drop-down list.
If you don't need text from drop-down list, erase selected test by pressing Del or BackSpace key.

Alex,

> Don't see any bug here.
Probably because the Test Name combo box apparently only remembers the last 20 test names entered (at least that's what is shows when opened).

Try the following:

* Create a new test (method and content doesn't matter) called "MyServer Drive C below 20 GB"
* Create a new test (method and content doesn't matter) called "ExchangeServer Ping"
* Copy the first test and try to replace the word "MyServer" with the word "ExchangeServer"

HM will now replace the entire string with "ExchangeServer Ping" although we wanted to end up with the string "ExchangeServer Drive C below 20 GB".

> If you select some test in combo box ...
I don't select any text, I don't open the drop down at all - I simply mark some characters in an existing test name to replace them

If AutoComplete is to make any sense it should only suggest something when the field is completely empty - either because the user creates a new test or because he erases the existing test name completely.

Hope I was able to clarify what the problem is.

Exactly. That's why you need to press Del or BackSpace to remove selected/marked characters.

Alex,

Ah, yes I see - although simply typing "on top" of the highlighted characters should have the same effect IMHO but I'm sure I can live with it

Thanks !

I have the same humble opion. And it took some time to understand the difference between typing "on top" of the highlighted characters versus pressing DEL before typing.

Oh, common. Do you really think we should redesign compiler library, spend a month fixing this "bug" and then somebody will ask to change this behavious as it was before? :)
Or may be better we use this month to implement some new nice options? Also we can use this time to investigate some really important problems, like handle leakage in MySQL ODBC driver...

Sure we can "fix" it quickly by replacing combobox with simple edit control. However I think its good the way it is.
