Filee compare on 2k3 server
Filee compare on 2k3 server
I am trying to run compare file on a 2k3 server but when I try to go to the path of the file I am getting access denied. This is only occuring on 2k3 servers. I can access the share via start, run \\server\sharename from the hostmon server without issue. Is there a setting within hostmon that I need to change or some rights on the 2k3 server that I am missing that is causing the access denied?
You want to check file located on remote system, right? HostMonitor is started as service?
Have you specified account with necessary rights on Service page in the Options dialog?

Have you provided username/password using Connection Manager?

Local system account does not have rights to use network functions at all.

RegardsNote #1: When HostMonitor starts as a service, it uses the system account (as all interactive services). But this account may not have all the necessary permissions, so some tests will not work correctly (UNC test, "disk free space" test for shared drives, "CPU Usage" test for remote machines, etc). If you need these tests, you will need to assign a special user account on the Service page in the Options dialog. In this case HostMonitor will impersonate the security context of the user. Do not change the account using the system utility "Services". If you do so, HostMonitor may be unable to interact with the desktop.

[4:44:44 PM] HostMonitor is going to execute "bat script sample: File Compare" script ...
[4:44:44 PM] Script started, no results received
The above error is being created while running 'let's try' from the Script Manager window using a Remote Desktop connection.
When I run the script from the commandline....all fine & dandy
What kind of special treatment W2K3 needs in order to get proper result from this script returned?
Running Windows 2003 Server SP1 and HostMonitor v6.24
Cheers

Why don't you use "Compare Files" test method?

This was just a sample. None of our scripts were working after upgrading HostMonitor from v6.10 to v6.24 and relocating it to a W2K3 machine. (Was on a Windows 2000 box before)
Luckily I found one of Alex' tips on RCC and mstsc and tried installing HostMonitor as a Win32 Service. Connecting to the instance using rcc.exe gave proper results on the 'lets try' tab ;c)
Now all scripts are running properly again.
My conclusion: something weird happened to us while in Remote Desktop mode....
Thnx 4 d tip though
