Monitoring remote sites using AHM and RMA.. is it limited??

Post by tarek.meliti »

Can I configure the AHM to remotely monitor several servers on multiple remote networks over the internet? For example we have two sites.

Site A: Is the main site with the AHM and is the central monitoring site.

Site B: Has 300 servers each with a RMA installed. The servers are behind a firewall and the site admin is willing to open firewall access to only one of the servers with the RMA

Will we be able to perform all the tests that are available on the AHM if we have access to only one server on Site B

Also Can we have the AHM run in a redundant configuration in case we lose the AHM server?

Usually single RMA may monitor entire LAN (if you start RMA under admin account).

RMA does not support complete set of test methods. It may execute about 40 test methods but it cannot perform POP3, IMAP, LDAP, RAS, and SNMP Trap test methods.

You may
- purchase 2 licenses
- install HostMonitor on 2 servers
- create simple test list for 2nd (backup) server with single test to monitor primary server.
- assign HMScript action to such test and use LoadTestList script command to load original test list that should be copied from primary server on regular basis

Can the remote server on site B with the RMA installed perform all the tests on your list (tests that have RMA ticked) for all the servers that are located at Site B? And to they have to have RMA Agents installed on each of the servers on the remote site B?

Yes. For some tests you need an account that can access the target servers of the test

Not when you only use tests that can be performed by RMA. For some tests you need an account that can access the target servers of the test

rma forwarding

Post by llinskey »

If Site A has hostmonitor and access to only one rma at site B yet all servers at site B have rma installed, can one act as a forwarder? Like snmp trap forwarding.

I use mostly linux agents and scripts so it is difficult to pass authentication like in all the windows tests. It would be nice to have that capablity for one system to forward rma messages for a site.

Thanks,

Larry

No, that's impossible.
Future versions of the agent should be able to connect to HostMonitor.
