lockup?
lockup?
I've got hostmon set up to E-mail everytime the status of a test changes. Then I filter E-mails from hostmon into a folder so I can see anything that happened on the network. I hadn't gotten E-mails in a while and I knew of some changes, so I checked hostmon and it was still running and testing, but I wasn't getting E-mails anymore and I couldn't check the test properties. After I restarted hostmon everything worked fine. Now I don't want this to happend again, and I'm not sure what caused it. Seemed to be partially locked up. Any ideas?

Here's the error I found:
SMTP client error: Access violation at address 0044F014 in module 'hostmon.exe'. Read of address 3B8BF090
I've got over 130 browser pages of these log entries. Was getting them for over 2 full days before it stopped sending mail. Since reboot I have not seen this entry again and everything is running ok.

it just wouldn't let me .. I'd right-click on the test and click on edit and nothing happened. Why exactly you couldn't check the test properties?
Well, if other applications are using up resources it seems odd that restarting hostmonitor seemed to have fixed it without restarting the whole Server. I just don't know. I am not familiar with Handles and objects. But what I found is that hostmonitor by far uses the most User and GDI objects with 174 and 299 respectively and an average amount of handles at 145. One thing noteworthy is we have some database software using 1.5GB of Memory, but it's hardly being used and the dual-CPUs are only bout 10% utilized.
Perhaps you know something that could help?

well, it happened again
Same symptoms, and again after restarting hostmon it seems to work fine.
I have many pages full of these errors:

Could you please check resource usage for each process? You may use standard Windows Task Manager to check Handles, GDI and USER objects. What the total resource usage?
Do you have installed some antivirus monitors, personal firewall, content monitoring software? Non stanard winsock components?
Regards
Alex

We have not had this happen again. Been running happily on this win2003 server running hostmon5.88. Just upgraded to 6.04 a few days ago. Do not know what may have made the difference. We may have decreased the amount of E-mails being sent when something bounces. Will let you know if anything happens.
FYI: we have always run norton corporate on that machine and I do see it popping up to scan the outgoing mails.

Well, it happened again, this time with hostmonitor 6.04. I sent support(at)ks-soft(dot)net the screenshots of the taskmanager. Again, I could just restart hostmonitor and everything was fine again.
Here's the error in the log files again:
SMTP client error: Access violation at address 0044FA3C in module 'hostmon.exe'. Read of address 3B8BF090
And I'm also getting these errors:
Report creation error: Cannot create file: \\<path>\<filename>
But that's expected, since the connection to the server where I create the reports actually was down.
Oh, and after restarting the service, hostmon.exe was using 200 handles, 300 User Objects and 620 GDI Objects.

Looks like you have heavily loaded system. I calculated over 15,000 handles in use and I do not see all processes on screen shot. I think your system running over 50 processes? Plus we have discovered small resource leak in HostMonitor (we are working on this problem and will fix as soon as possible).
I would recommend to unload some software. Also you may start HostMonitor in application mode (if possible) as temporary solution. There is no leak in application mode
