Translate macros available in File Integrity test.

Post by sherrera »

Hi Alex,

Would it be possible to add the translate macros check box option to the File Integrity test?

I have a case where I want to monitor some log files to make sure they are changing. But the folders they are stored in get changed each month and the file name changes daily. Even though the CRC Value changes the date modified does not, so i cannot use check the age of the file to make sure it is changing.

Even though the CRC Value changes the date modified does
Are you sure that program restores timestamp of the file?
I wonder because "normal" program doesn't do such things to log files.

Yes that is correct normally it doesnt. However, this log has many entries per second, i think it is done because it would be a mess to keep changing the modified date that often.

Application doesn't need to change the date. If application opens the file, saves some data and closes the file, then OS (Windows, DOS, UNIX) changes file modification time.
If modification time was not changed, most likelly application did not close the file. And probably file is locked for reading or writing. So, I am not sure File Integrity test method will work...

I have verified on a live file that it does work, and resets the CRC value etc. The test works fine, it is just that currently i would have to go in and change the name everyday.

Ok, update available at www.hostmonitor.biz/download/hm601.zip
You should install version 6.00 before using this update
Also you should add "FileCRCTranslateMacros=1" line into [Misc] section of hosmon.ini file
