AHM run as service

Post by Nadir »

Why all performance counter test failed when AHM run as services?
I configured a special account with domain admin permission in service option but it doensn't work?

PS: CPU usage test, service test and NT Event logs test works fine

Do you know what's the problem?
Thanks

What does it mean - "failed"? Do you see any error? Test fails? What exact performance counter failed? Do you check performance counters on local or remote machine?

Did you restart AHM service after specifying admin account?

Windows implementation of performance counters has bugs and it may lead to a various problem. Before using Performance Counter test you should read manual http://www.ks-soft.net/hostmon.eng/mfra ... erfcounter, especially Important Notes topic. Also you may search through the forum with keywords "Performance counter". A lot of such problems were solved in this forum.
Anyway, you may try WMI test instead.

Ok, Let's try to figure it out. Some additional questions:
What Windows do you use?
Service Pack?
Do you check Performance counters on local or remote machine?

Please make sure
1) RPC service is started on your systems
2) Remote Registry Service started on target system
3) PerfOS.DLL is enabled on target system
4) There are no firewalls between 2 systems

Microsoft provides "Extensible Counter List" utility: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en
This utility displays list of DLLs that are used to support Performance Counters, using the utility you may disable/enable specific DLLs.

I think you should try for service account, that you are currently logged in. If HM as service will work fine, than previous accout has no necessary rights. Could you try it?

We already spent a lot of time to investigate similar problems that usualy appears when HostMonitor is started in service mode. When HostMonitor calls Windows API to establish connection with remote system, Windows may use default account (account that is used to run software) instead of account directly specified for the host. Why Windows does this? We don't know.
Solution? If you may create account on remote system using the same user name and password that are used for local admin account, it may help. Usualy it helps.

BTW. What OS is installed on remote machine? 2000? 2003? XP?
Any errors in Event log?

Really strange. What version of HostMonitor do you use?
I think you may use WMI test instead of Performance Counter.

Are all of those servers members of one domain?
Also I think you should specify account for Performance Counter test in Connection manager.

Yes, I understand. But you may use WMI test method to retrieve the same information. Do not forget to specify account for WMI test using Connection Manager dialog.
