Duplicate Emails

Post by Sorthum »

My apologies if this is a dumb question...

Whenever there's a status change in a test, duplicate emails are received, a few seconds apart. I've determined that HostMonitor is sending the emails distinctly, so it's not a mailserver misconfiguration. The test status is set to email after 3 consecutive "Bad" results, yet there's no duplication in the action profile.

Where else should I look to run this down? If I can provide any more information, please let me know.

May be you have started 2 instances of HostMonitor? E.g. one in service mode, another as application?
Or you have 2 copies of the test? Can you use "Reverse alert" test option to change status of the single test and see what happens?

That explains it-- the service was running!

Two followup questions--

1. Will the KS Advanced Host Monitor service play a sound when the action is called for?

2. Will the KS Web Service trigger alerts on its own, for instance email and sounds?

Yep. You could find more information about Action Profiles here:

Thank you very much for your help-- it's fantastic to have a product with such responsive support behind it.

Is there a way to supress alerts from a secondary instance of HostManager? For instance, to run the monitor to adjust tests, but not have duplicate alerts going out while the program is open?

You should not run service and application in the same time.
If you are working with HostMonitor system locally, click on the icon in system try to manage HostMonitor (service).
If you are working with remote system where HostMonitor is started as service, then use RCC.
If you do not have RCC license, then simply stop service before starting application.
