Metric Reporting

I want to use HM for metric reporting. If I have a server that I am monitoring (ping) and a router goes down between the HM server and the server that I am monitoring, it looks like the server was down too according to the alive % field. I tried setting up the “This test depends on” option, but the ...

This might be half the problem. I don't have a alerts.lst file.

Same Problem

I have the same problem. When HM notices a problem, it doesn't send the notification that there is a problem. The logs show nothing. When the problem has been resolved, it always send a message saying the problem has been resolved.

I too am running it as a service.

Sorry for the delay in response. Yes the service is running on both ends. Plus it successfully testing other items on the server, which is most confusing. The servers are located in a different domain, but i have setup the neccessary security for hostmonitor to reachout and test those boxes.

I installed the RMA on all the servers and it resolved most of my problems.

The HM server is running on W2K (patches up-to-date) with HM 4.60. The target servers are all running W2K (patches up-to-date). I am trying to do Performance Counter tests.

Thanks!

Unable to connect to machine

I am having trouble getting HM to communicate to some of my serves. HM comes back with a “unable to connect to machine” error when adding additional test. I have other test running to the target machine (RMA) that I have imported. It’s not a DNS/WINS issue because I am able to map a drive to the tar...

The source and destination are both Windows 2000 servers. The source server is a file in print server with utilization no more than 3 to 5 percent at any give time. I would even say the average is less than 1 percent utilized.

Is there a log file that details why its not connecting?

Both. I have seen a working server change to unknown, but primarily after I restart HM. Sometime it will change from an unknown status to good. I am using a domain admin account to test the serves. It is not specific to a domain, because I have good and unknown servers in the same domain.

Status Unknown for PerfCounter monitoring

I am having a problem getting Host Monitor 4.45 to monitor all of my Microsoft servers. I am currently monitoring 10 servers and plan to add an additional 80+ to the list. Some serves come back as “unknown”. The only test/events that comeback as unknown are related to PerfCounter. Ping and DNS tests...
