Hi there,
want to know if it's possible to use the Nokia Card Phone 2.0 with host monitor action profile. I tested different pager-settings but it doesn't worked
I need host monitor for an SMS-Support Alert! Does anyone knows an external program which could send the alert messages from host monitor???
Thanx for answer

Hello,
I've build a platform that enables system engineers to send messages to a predefined e-mail account. All mails arriving on that mailaccoount are linked to a mobile phone number. The systems works that you buy a bundle ( ex. 500 messages ) and every time an alert is send tot bundle drops with one.
If you would be interested just let me know.
It depeends on the country you are from and what mobile operator you use.
Regards, Marc. |

But that's the problem, if for example mail-server is hanging or network is down how would you send an eMail???
That's not a solution for us...
Does anyone use KS-Hostmonitor with a gsm modem in germany???

But yes there is a solution ;o)
There are 2 options :
- or the sms engine checks continuously with pings if he can reach the server. If he can't he'll send out an sms
- or in host monitor you send out on a regular basis mails every 5 minutes. If the sms server does not receive a mail for more than 5 minutes it will generate an alerting
sms

Unfortunately current version of HostMonitor does not support GSM modems and cannot send SMS messages directly.
However many cell phone providers support TAP protocol. If your provider does, you can use regular modem and "Send message to pager (TAP)" action to send message using TAP protocol.

You can connect directly to providers, but it is not very stable. If you don't have a closed loop system ( intelligent SMS distribution, that resends if there is no response ) it is not stable enough.
SMS is not as e-Mail or pagers. Whn you send out an sms it is nu certain that it arrives. This is why you need this inyelligent system.
I've send out more than 5 million messages over the last year and more than 2% just disappear. If you don't have an intelligent system and you lose 2 from every 100 server down messages, it's a bad deal

I use an SMS unit made by Falcom (German company) it is basically a GSM modem with a serial cable. We purchased a prepaid phone card and plugged the unit into our HostMonitor PC. It behaves like a modem and comes with full documentation.
Our test's in HostMonitor simply run a small program (written ourselves, but quite simple) as the action, that passes the parameters to the program. The program simply dials the modem and sends the messages. It's fast, reliable and not dependant on our network or phone system.
Highly recommended. |

Hi !
We have connected a GSM modem to a serial port and sends SMS messages via a simple DOS command like C:>sendSMS COM1 +4520201099 "message"
It works very well.
