Test passive RMA connection

Post by mlimtl »

Hi,

We had a network problem with our server and every RMA connection went bad so we got about 400 mail with unknown status. To resolve that I uncheck the threat unknown as bad but now I will I know if a RMA lost it connection ?

Thanks

Hi,

I suggest you to set "Threat unknown as bad" back to true and do the following steps: setup 1 Master test item for each RMA. E.g.
ping localhost using agent. Then setup all other test items performed by
this agent as dependant tests so HostMonitor will not execute them when
connection to agent cannot be established.

our problem is when the ping seems to work or have been working the last time then the test is executed ...

Ex. : the ping worked but the agent cannot connect on the configured port

Ex. #2 : at 13:15:00 the ping was ok (next test in 30 sec) and until 13:15:30 all RMA test get the status unknown because of a network error.

That Ping test should be performed by the agent!
So, if agent cannot connect to HostMonitor (or HostMonitor cannot conect to the agent), test will fail.

Also, you may change "Consider status of the master test obsolete after N seconds" option depending you your average test frequency. Option located on Behavior page in the Options dialog.
This parameter is used by the program to determine whether the Master test status is up-to-date. Before starting a dependent test HostMonitor checks the status values of the Master tests defined on it. If Master test was performed more than N seconds ago, HostMonitor will recheck the Master test item before checking dependant items.

What test interval do you use for you test items? 10 min? 20 sec?

Alex
