%Folder% variable in file name?

Post by mp1 »

Hi,

Some weeks ago, I had this "problem"

http://www.ks-soft.net/cgi-bin/phpBB/vi ... der+report

Is there a chance to implement this?

Thanks in advance

If you need different reports for different folders, you should setup report settings for each folder anyway (using Folder Properties dialog). I do not understand why do you need some variable if you may specify file name directly?

At the moment we monitor about 150 servers, our structure looks like this:

location 1
---> servername 1
---> servername 2

location 2
----> servername 3
----> servername 4

and so on ...

No we would like to implement in our server documation an report for every single server. It would be much easier, when we could use the foldername variable to save the reports, so we wouldn't need "use folder's own report settings" ;-)

Another wish would also as yet discussed here a virtual folder option, so that we could do a report with different servers from different location.

Or another idea: Report profiles where you can select different folders with an independent scheduler (not via Action profiles)

I know, that are a lot of wishes - we have just implemented HM and so we find every day new ideas :wink:

Best regards,

Sorry for delay

But you need to use that dialog anyway.. unless you are using "Generate reports" action. You are using action to create reports, right?
Ok, I have added your request into "to do" list.

Yes, we plan to implement such option in version 6
Or another idea: Report profiles where you can select different folders with an independent scheduler (not via Action profiles)
If we implement previous option, you don't need this one 8)

No, we don't use the "Generate reports" action. This actions use the same settings, as I configure it direct on the folder, the only differnence is, that the report will generated after an action ;-)
I mean, the "Generate reports" action, cann't use his own folder report settings.

Nice to here, that the "virtual folder option" will come 8)

Now I understand nothing. If you do not use "Generate reports" action, then you setup HostMonitor to create reports on regular interval using Options dialog or Folder Properties dialog. Right? In such case you don't need %Folder% variable because you may specify name of the file manually

Exactly this is, what we don't want - do specify the name of the file manually. If the name could be the %Folder% variable, than we would need only the settings in the root folder and all the subfolders use the same settings ("Use inheritable settings from parent")

I hope, you understand it now, what we want ;-)

If some folder inherits Report settings from parent folder, HostMonitor does not create separate report for this folder. This folder (test items located within the folder) will be included in the report generated by parent folder.
So, do you need just variable? Or you need to change behavior of the HostMonitor?
