Stop monitoring / Disable Alerts By Folder?

Post by timn »

I don't know if anyone other than myself would have a need for this feature but...

Currently, I can quickly "Stop Monitoring" or "Disabled Alerts" globally -- i.e. for all tests in all folders.

It would be nice to be able to do this on a 'per folder' basis.

Here's why. Our configuration of active/inactive machines changes dramatically throughout the year. For example, we often bring our application servers online in groups of 10 servers to handle peak loads.

Also, for maintenance, we also tend to bring these servers down/offline in groups of 10 (banks).

When they are active we want to monitor. But during maintenance or offline, no monitoring.

Currently, I can 'disable' all tests in a folder but this is very time consuming, requiring several minutes when hundreds of tests are involved -- much more than do the global "Stop Monitoring" or "Disabled Alerts" features.
Being able to quickly "Stop Monitoring" or "Disabled Alerts" on a per folder basis would be a help.

I've thought about using multiple test list to implement this but I'd need so many different test lists that maintenance would be a nightmare.

Like I said though, I'm not sure whether this feature would be of use to your other customers - if not, then please don't bother spending time on it.

Several minutes? Why? There are "Disable this folder" and "Enable this folder" items in the popup menu.

I think new folder level commands will be implemented in version 5

For example, folder GROUP3 contains 10 subfolders, each subfolder contains 28 tests.

When I apply "Disable This Folder" to GROUP3, there are approx. 280
test to disable. This tends to take a long time (though it certainly does work).

Like I said, if no one else is interested, probably better to focus on
features more people would find useful
