RCI and Web Service Problem

Post by rianb »

Hi,

I have been running HM 4.42 Eval for a few days now and really like all the features. I will be purchasing a license but I can't seem to get the Web Service to work.

Both HM and Web Service is installed on the same box for testing. (Win XP Pro SP1 fully patched. IIS not installed)

RCI is "Enabled" and listening on port 27. (tried many different ports with no luck)
Web Service is running as a server and also set to port 27. When connecting with a browser I get the Username/password box and then login as Admin. ( Also created more users...)
This is want I get I the "RCI Status" window:

5:57:33 PM IP Connection from 127.0.0.1 .. Accepted
5:55:24 PM RCI enabled

In the browser I get this:
-----------
Response from Hostmonitor's Web Service:
Transmission error (Web Service <-> HostMonitor): "Connection error"

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Possible reasons:
- HostMonitor is not running
- RCI interface disabled
- HM Web Service configured incorrectly (wrong TCP Port or IP address)
- network problem
------------

I an not seeing any error logs and have tried connecting as a different user and from different machines on the same network. Same error message every time.
There is no software Firewalls installed on this box and AV is NOD32.

Is the ANYTHING else I can troubleshoot to get the web service working? I really like HM and would prefer purchasing it for my company rather than the other program we are also evaluating.

Thanks in advance!

H'm...
5:57:33 PM IP Connection from 127.0.0.1 .. Accepted
5:55:24 PM RCI enabled
It means that TCP connection was accepted. Also it means HostMonitor did not receive complette request from Web Service within specified timeout.
If HostMonitor receive request from Web Service it displays another message (it could be error message e.g. "Invalid user name or password" or it could be confirmation message).
Its strange.

Could you check system log (you may use menu "View"->"System log"). I assume you will not see any error message there but ... just in case.
What connection paramets do you use? Timeout, Maximum simultaneous connections? Could you send hostmon.ini and webservice.ini files to support@ks-soft.net?

Thanks for the quick reply Alex. I just sent you the requested .ini and syslog file since there were entries in it.

Thanks! 8)

Settings look correctly.. I changed just one parameter (address of my HostMonitor system) and it works.
But as I see you have started Web Service in service mode? Of course it should work in this mode, but.. Could you start it as application? Just for testing purpose. Also you have installed Web Service and HostMonitor on the same system, could you change address to 127.0.0.1? Just for testing.

Hi Alex,

Again thank you for the quick replies! I am really stumped here. Changed the Web Service to run as an application and set it back to 127.0.0.1
No luck, still the same error message. (Updated files sent by e-mail)

Just to confirm: Where do you change the IP for HostMonitor? I can see where to change port settings but not for an IP?

Also I have Proxomitron Naoko 4.4 on the test system but it is disabled and would normally listen on 127.0.0.1:8080. The browsers I am testing with are all set to not use a Proxy.

4:37:03 PM IP Connection from 127.0.0.1 .. Accepted
4:36:07 PM IP Connection from 127.0.0.1 .. Accepted
4:36:07 PM IP Connection from 127.0.0.1 .. Accepted
4:35:20 PM RCI enabled

Looking forward to any suggestions you might have....

Thanks,
RB

Rian,
Just to confirm: Where do you change the IP for HostMonitor? I can see where to change port settings but not for an IP?
You already changed IP. Its displayed on main form of Web Service.
Also I have Proxomitron Naoko 4.4 on the test system but it is disabled and would normally listen on 127.0.0.1:8080. The browsers I am testing with are all set to not use a Proxy.
I checked your ini files again - all settings are correct.
Why HostMonitor receives TCP connection but does not receive request? I
don't have any idea  I will check code again....
Do you have some other system that you can use for testing?

Hi Alex,

I just installed HostMonitor eval to my Windows 2000 Server. I get exactly the same error message as on the XP box. Again Web Service and HM is installed on the same server....

What else can I check?

Thanks,

The same antivirus system is running on both systems?
Could you temporarily disable it?
