Reports aren't generated as configured on the Folder Setting

Post by sebirello »

Hello,

I've the problem that reports aren't generated in the interval, which is configured at the test folder, if host monitor is closed and running as a service.

I've set the setting "generate reports every" to 10 minutes and no reports is generated.

When I run the software under the same account as configured for the service the reports are generated.

It too works on demand if i click generate reports now.

Thanks for your help!
Kind Regards,
Sebastian

HostMonitor version?
Windows? Service Pack?
What error do you see in HostMonitor system log file?

May be you are using mapped network drive for the report?
Services do no have access to mapped drives.
You may specify UNC path (e.g. \\server1\share1\reports\rep01.htm) but we recommend to use local drive for reports and log files

If running as a Service, I'm getting no entry in the log file.
If running the application as user I'm getting the report and the following in the log file:
HTML report created (file: C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\Kunden\...)

Could you check for errors once more using menu View->Auditing Tool->Recent syslog?

>I'm getting no entry in the log file.

May we see the file?
Can you setup reports using path like C:\ProgramData\HostMonitor\Logs? Still no reports and no errors?

Theres not more listed as in the syslog file.

Here are the last entries of the log file:
That was with the application running and with service stopped:

Than I've closed the program and the service was startetd again, no more reports are generated.

Can you setup reports using path like C:\ProgramData\HostMonitor\Logs? Still no reports and no errors?

Then I've set the report path to C:\ProgramData\HostMonitor\Logs:

Again, since the program was running, no problem, the reports were generated, as you can see at the first two lines:

We cannot reproduce the problem.
Also, we do not understand why you do not see error in the log. If HostMonitor cannot create report, it records "report creation error..."

Unless you did not wait long enough?
------
[08.11.2016 10:28:00] Sys RMA Server enabled
[08.11.2016 10:30:00] Sys Monitor started
[08.11.2016 10:30:25] Sys RMA X.X.X.X: Connection rejected
------
Looks like HostMonitor needs 2 minutes to load all settings (huge test list? then version 10.00 should help, it works faster, next version will work even faster).
This means report should be created around 10:31:30
Any log records around this time?

Another possible reason - service and application use different config files (located in different folders).
What path did you use for config files during installation?
Default C:\ProgramData\HostMontor\ ?
or something like C:\Program Files (x86)\HostMonitor ?
Could you connect to HostMonitor service using RCC and check settings?

btw: you have installed some Active RMA agent but did not configure HostMonitor to accept connections from this agent.
If you don't need agent, just stop it.

That is what I too do not understand, seems that the service is not even executing the command for creating the reports.

Unless you did not wait long enough?
------
[08.11.2016 10:28:00] Sys RMA Server enabled
[08.11.2016 10:30:00] Sys Monitor started
[08.11.2016 10:30:25] Sys RMA X.X.X.X: Connection rejected
------

No, no records, I guess the 2 minutes are because the service is set to wait for 2 minutes in the Hostmonitor application.

Another possible reason - service and application use different config files (located in different folders).
What path did you use for config files during installation?
Default C:\ProgramData\HostMontor\ ?
or something like C:\Program Files (x86)\HostMonitor ?

The path is C:\Program Files\HostMonitor

Could you connect to HostMonitor service using RCC and check settings?

How can I connect to the HostMonitor service with RCC? If I open the RCC and try to connect to the localhost it it not possible.

btw: you have installed some Active RMA agent but did not configure HostMonitor to accept connections from this agent.
If you don't need agent, just stop it.

We have configured 3 RMA agents and one local RMA agent, if I have a look at the RMA Manager the status of all 4 is connected.
In the Hostmonitor application the three IP addresses of the external RMA agents are accepted under Active RMA.

The problem is, I've not setup up the Hostmonitor, it was a collegaue who is not in our firm anymore.
Can I send you any config files or something to get behind the problem?

Thank you!
Kind Regards,
Sebastian

The path is C:\Program Files\HostMonitor
virtual files problem - to keep legacy apps running, Windows (starting from Vista) pretends to write to specified file locations, but when you go to look for those files, you won't find them because Windows actually stores the files in a "Virtual Store" under the AppData store in your user folder.

C:\Program Files\HostMonitor\ is bad location for config files - when you start application and service, HostMonitor may use different config files without knowing that.
Default installation path for config files C:\ProgramData\HostMonitor.

In your case I would recommend to use only one mode: either application or service.

Another possible solution, backup config files (*.LST, *.HML, *.INI), reinstall software using Install mode (not Update/Repair) and default path for config files, restore ALL config files (*.LST, *.HML, *.INI) into new data folder, start HostMonitor and adjust some settings (e.g. change path to reports and logs from c:\program files\ to c:\programdata\)
Make sure you backup correct config files, as you may have several sets now...
How can I connect to the HostMonitor service with RCC? If I open the RCC and try to connect to the localhost it it not possible.
What exactly means "not possible"?
What error do you see?
Have you enabled RCI interface? setup user account, allowed remote or local connections? used this account and correct password?
We have configured 3 RMA agents and one local RMA agent, if I have a look at the RMA Manager the status of all 4 is connected.
Well, there is some other agent tries to connect. You see its IP in the log so you may check that system and stop/uninstall agent.
