Trying to understand report basics

Post by david.matthewson »

Hi Alex

I'm trying to get my head around reports & html templates, with the idea of replacing the 'dashboard' so we can run it on a big screen to show a view of our system updated very 5 mins or so.

I like the 'dashboard' but then would like a few rows at the bottom of the screen to detail any failing tests.

I've ready the Help file but am still a bit adrift. Can you suggest where I might best look for more information?

TiA

You cannot make your own template for Dashboard report.
What exactly additional info do you need?

Dashboard

Post by david.matthewson »

Hi Alex (you never sleep ;} )

I'm trying to build a screen/reports which looks like the dashboard or example3 'traffic light' screen but which also has a few lines at the bottom of the screen which give more details about what the 'red' (failures) act6ually are.

I know with 'dashboard' I can click on a 'red' to expand it but I'd like this to be usable on a big screen in our office to show LAN status at a glance and thus to show status and 'top 5 errors' or similar in more detail - so a sort of split screen.

Thanks

David

Sorry, I still do not understand what exactly means "more details".
Dashboard shows latest events - time, test, name, status, reply
http://ks-soft.net/hostmon.eng/examples/dashboard3.htm

What other information, test item field do you need?
Do you need information about each "bad" test item within entire test list?
Latest "bad" events for each folder?
Something else?

Oh, I see your image now.
Well, it looks like standard Dashboard with "Display 7 latest bad events at the bottom" option enabled.

Yes, that sounds like it..but how do I add 'top 'n' tests? Is there a predefined option or what? -, as I can't see it! ;{

Thanks

OK - got it!

Duh! - OK, I found the 'dashboard' control in Reports|ReportManger in the main HostMon interface.. and from there I could add my 'top bad tests' to the bottom of the list.

I then set the Report scheduler to generate the 'dash.html' reports every 60 seconds, and drop it into the hostmon/Logs dir.

Great.

I then needed to use the webservice interface|Advanced to allow permission to the 'Logs' dir, and then in the web browser, use the syntax http://server:81/Logs/dash.html.

And it all works - straight out of the box - many thanks Alex! Great service as usual.

Brgds
