Migrating Hostmonitor to a VM Server

Post by law_g30 »

Hi Everyone,

I have been using hostmonitor for 2 years now. I just want to ask what are the steps to take if we want to migrate from a Physical Server to a Virtual Server? Is this possible? Everyone is heading towards Virtualization so we decided to migrate HM to a VM.

Thanks.

How to move preconfigured HostMonitor to another server:
http://www.ks-soft.net/cgi-bin/phpBB/vi ... php?t=1099

Regarding VMWare: we tested HostMonitor on VMWare Workstation version 6.0, 6.5, 7.0 without any problems. Many customers run HostMonitor on VMWare ESX servers and it works fine as well.
At the same time several customers had problems running HostMonitor on VMWare systems and we could not find exact reason of the problems but problems were fixed when HostMonitor was moved to "physical" Windows server. May be some buggy driver leads to problems...

In other words, you may try to move HostMonitor to virtual machine. Most likely everything will works fine, however we cannot guarantee results.

Please use menu "Help"->"Update check" to verify that your license valid for latest version. Its better to check license before update than after...

Hi Alex,

I was able to install it on our VMserver by following your instructions. However I have one big issue. The RMAs wont connect to the RMA Manager. It's seems that they can't find the server. I've checked the firewall and made sure ports are open. We are also using the same public IP on the new server. I also made sure that it is running as a service and I also registered it with the most correct licenses.

Any Ideas on how to resolve?

with kind regards,

Lawrence

Do you use Active RMA? Can you check RMA log files (loga_bad.txt and loga_ok.txt if you are using default settings)? What exactly error message do you see there?
