Hostmon as SNMP-Client

Post by FWeichenmeier »

Hello!

Our Company is using Hostmon to check and report the status of our installed systems. Now we have a customer that uses Nagios to check his routers and network and wants to check the status of the system that we installed there as well (unfortunately he doesn't want to switch to other tools). He wants us to use SNMP to show our status. As we have quite a couple of tests on hostmon we don't want to change our system management tool but use Hostmon as a device to report to Nagios. I've seen that Hostmon can post SNMNP-Trap-Messages as actions, so that should be no problem.

My question now is: Can Hostmon also respond to the SNMP-Get-Messages that Nagios sends for to get the status of our system?

Regards,

Florian

No, HostMonitor listens for SNMP Trap messages but it does not respond to SNMP GET requests. And I don't think we implement such option in nearest versions.

Alex,

thank you very much for your quick answer. I do not think it's a problem (it shouldn't be) for our customer to implement a "reverse trap" with nagios as in hostmon

Best regards,
