When 'Treat unknown as bad' option is disabled, it starts count from 1, when tests changes status from "Bad" to "Unknown" (or from "Unknown" to "Bad"). If the option is enabled, it continue to count from previous recurrence (e.g. if there were 3 "Bad&quo...

It doesn't seem to be possible to set the alert 2b. above. When I go to select "Action depends on bad one", only standard alerts are listed, the new advanced alert isn't available to select.

Just one quick extra question: ('%SimpleStatus%'=='UNKNOWN') and (%Recurrences%==3) Does this Recurrences value count unknowns when the 'Treat unknown as bad' setting is unchecked? Our recurrence counts on the main test list don't seem to include unknown results? I'm just a bit concerned about wheth...

Re: Counters not resetting but alerts still fire after 'unkn

You have to disable "Treat Unknown status as Bad" option for the test" and use "Action depends on "bad" one" option for the "Good" action.. Thanks for that. We already had disabled the 'treat unknown status as bad', but I'd missed the 'action depends on'...

Counters not resetting but alerts still fire after 'unknown'

Hi, We're getting odd behaviour when tests return 'unknown' status, is there any way we can get around this? We have a standard alert profile for nearly all of our tests, it sends a simple e-mail or text message the first time the status changes from good to bad and vice versa. Both the good and bad...

Many thanks Max, and thanks for such a quick response.

I guess there's no huge rush to update the documentation - the problem's documented here now if anyone else runs into it :D

Sweet, that works perfectly.

For future reference, any chance you could either document that in the SNMP help area, or put a link in the SNMP test area to the SNMP options? :-)

Can't query value from SNMP table

Hi, We've just upgraded to Hostmon Professional to get the MIB Browser and do our first SNMP tests. I'm having problems querying the values I want however. The two values I need to read are in a table in the SNMP device. The OID for the table is: 1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1 And the particular field I need is:...

I only want to use it on some tests, but would be nice to have it as a standard option. Your reply also doesn't work as a work-around, let me try to explain: I already have alerts that start on just "bad" or "good" status, only alerting me with a repeat count of 1. The problem se...

Ignore 'unknown' status

Could I request an additional feature as well as the 'treat unknown as bad'. This would be "ignore unknown results", or "treat unknown as last result". ie. If the test was previously bad & now returns unknown I don't want the status to change. Ditto if the test was previously...

Occasional error running SQL test: Access violation at 0000

Every so often our SQL test report an access violation generating a false positive in HostMonitor. There doesn't seem to be any pattern to the error, it happens every day or so and there are no errors that I can see in the event log of either server. The exact error we get is: "Access violation...

Some e-mail alerts are not being sent + other questions

Since implementing SMS alerts for a few events, we've spotted that e-mails are not always sent when an alert is logged in Hostmonitor. This morning we've received half a dozen SMS notifications but no e-mail alerts. The action for all these events has included an e-mail and a SMS alert. We're still ...

Yeah, I guess you're right - synchronous mode would require a queuing engine inside hostmonitor and that's a whole new ball game, especially if you have a lot of tests.

I've updated my script so it waits until the device is free, works much better now.

Thanks again for the quick response :)

Alert with multiple SMS recipients - intermittent results

We're using hostmonitor to check the temperature of our server room and have configured it to send SMS messages to our two network admins if the temperature exceeds our limits. We're finding that we can get a message to any one admin, but not to both. I suspect that all the alert actions are being f...
