Hi,

For all my network traffic tests I get quick log entries without obvious reasons.
They are alternating "Host is alive" and "OK" entries.
Is there something I can set to stop these entries?

Thanks!

HostMonitor version?

Host is alive status with empty Reply field?
This happens when device resets statistics, e.g. after reboot or overflow.
Does target devices (SNMP agent on the devices) support 64bit counters?
Also you may check Uptime (OID 1.3.6.1.2.1.1.3.0)..

>Is there something I can set to stop these entries?

I think you should fix some problem related to the devices, not just stop logging.

Regards
Alex

Hi Alex,

Yes, host alive status with empty reply.

Latest version (11.99) on a Windows 10 Pro x64 VM.
I use these traffic tests for switches (HP, DELL, CISCO).
Both for uplink traffic as total traffic.

All my 'traffic' tests show this behaviour, rather randomly.
Sometimes not for days or even weeks, then a few dozen in 1 day.

Please set SNMP Get Uptime tests (OID 1.3.6.1.2.1.1.3.0) for these devices.

Does target devices (SNMP agent on the devices) support 64bit counters? You may check this using Test Properties dialog - click button to check list of network interfaces, there should be label "64bit supported: Yes" or "64bit supported: No"

>Sometimes not for days or even weeks, then a few dozen in 1 day.

Do you mean all devices reset at the same time? Power failure problem?

Regards
Alex

Hi Alex,

Uptime tests have been running for these devices ever since I added them.
There is no power/reboot/reset issue whatsoever.
I checked for the 64bit support.
Some of the tested devices do support this, some don't.
However, they all show the same behaviour.
The 'empty replies' do not occur simultaneously, they are totally random.
But during a period of misbehaviour, the all seem to misbehave

May we see logs (uptime + traffic results)? Please send to support@ks-soft.net
Can we get SNMP access to your device?

Alex

This issue is solved.
Due to the 32bit counters being used with SNMP V1 most port traffic counters overflowed and resetted between tests.
Setting the test to SNMP V2 (using 64bit counters) solved the issue.

Thanks to Alex for pointing that out.
Great support, as always!
