Disable alerts in Hostmon

Post by syang »

We are trying to disable alerts in Hostmon whenever there is maintenance window scheduled on a database.

Can someone advise proper way? We just purchased the Hostmon monitoring tool and it is pretty new to us.

Thanks!

Not sure I understand your needs.
Do you need to disable all alerts? Alerts assigned to some tests? Disable tests?
Disable all actions when some flag in your database has been set?
What kind of database? Some common SQL server like Oracle, MS SQL, MySQL?

Alex,

I meant disable certain tests before a maintenance window. We are running Oracle 10gR2. There have been tests setup against the Oracle databases in HostMon to alert us on some issues such as when an Oracle database instance is down, etc.

Thanks!

So you have list of test names or test IDs in database and you want to check this database on regular base and disable or pause test items automatically.

HostMonitor cannot do this unless you create some SQL script that will check database and generate HM Script file (this is text file) using "DisableTest" and "PauseTest" commands.
HM Script: http://www.ks-soft.net/hostmon.eng/mfra ... #actScript

Then you may setup "File/Folder Availability" or "File Integrity" test to check for updates and assign HM Script action to this test so action will be started by HostMonitor everythime your SQL script creates new HMScript.

If you have a fixed maintenance window, then maybe a schedule for the tests would cover it?
