|
|
I feel like I have had this problem last time I upgraded but I have searched the forums (and Google) and the manual and cannot figure it out.
When I run the upgrade from 8.32 to 8.54 I get an error that hostmon.exe file in use. I am sure this has something to do with running it as a service, but I have stopped the services, even tried disabling them. What am I missing? Can the solution to this be added to the manual or help? I am sure the fix is simple albeit manual and not detailed (or I have overlooked it).
I love this product but I feel the install/upgrade part could be improved to make it automated and painless when you have it running as a service. |

OK so I was desperate to get Host Monitor back online so I renamed hostmon.exe and the upgrade went fine this time and the services started up ok.
Would love to know why this is happening and if it affects anyone else.
Also would love for the install to use a more up to date installer so that upgrades can automatically select the same options to install as last time, etc. |

Very rarely but sometimes this happens. We did not have such problem on our systems so we cannot say for sure what is the reason of the problem: some Windows feature or sideeffect caused by 3rd party software (e.g. antivirus monitor).
Yes, you may rename hostmon.exe and repeat installation or you may disable service and reboot system, this helps as well

I still get this every time I upgrade, so it always takes me a while to remember that I have to rename the file each time.
I have disabled Antivirus, stopped the services, checked permissions, nothing makes any difference.
Maybe it's related to it being installed as a service?
Also is the installer ever going to be able to know what features are already installed and just upgrade those? Each time I have to de-select the right things. |

I just ran process explorer and found that wmiprvse.exe is holding it open. Restarting Windows Management Instrumentation resolved the problem. Maybe this would be a good KB article? |

Thank you for information.
Looks like some other software have similar problems caused by wmiprvse.exe process. I think we can modify installation program a little...

Just upgraded to 8.68 and this still seems to be a problem? |

New version of installation program tries several tricks including
renaming of "old" hostmon.exe file. It still does not work on your system??
H'm, I am not sure what else we can do...
What Windows do you use? Service Pack?

Windows 2003 SBS SP2.
As I stated above the Windows Management Instrumentation service is the key. Restarting that service after I stop the HM service and and the install goes without a hitch. |
