Log Size Issue

Post by scott.carroll@brulant.com »

Hi,

I'm having an issue where my log is stopping at 2 GB. I am using .htm logs and rotating weekly. We just started hitting this limit in the last couple of weeks and didn't have any problems before then, but I run weekly reports off of the logs to provide to each client with statistics, so I need to find a way to increase the log file size and can't find a setting within KS Host Monitor (if there is such a setting). We are currently running KS Host Monitor 6.82 on Windows 2003 R2 Standard SP2.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks.

Well, HTML logs is designed primarily for viewing by operators. It cannot grows over 2GB.
If you are using "Full" logging mode and you are using log files for software processing (Log Analyzer, Log Visializer), its much better to use Text or ODBC logging. Text log will be about 6-7 times smaller than HTML log and it can be processed more quickly. If you have many thousand of test items and you need to use Full logging mode for all of them, I would recommend to setup ODBC logging to store data on some SQL server.

Thanks so much for the reply! I'm going to switch over to text logs and see if that helps. If not, then I'll go with a daily rotation. :-)

Thanks again!
