Hello

I have Scheduled reports every 5 minutes and I make many differnet reports.

I wish to have the opportunity to have "this folder an all subfolders" as you made in report actions.

Sven

HostMonitor includes in the report all subfolders those inherit report settings from the parent folder.

OK a better explanation:

I have one report that reports from all folders, and many that reports from specific folders, those reporting from specific folders have "Use folder's own report settings". and they are not visible on the report on all folders.

Therefore an option to have all subfolders, no matter what the reports in subfolders says, would be great.

I use an empty folder between my root and the servers I check.

I named them after the location and can generate a per location report or a root report with ALL servers.

My folder structure looks like this:

Company
Servers
Server Up Time
Disk Usage
Printers
WWW
Routers and Switches

I have a report for WWW which I post for our consultants outside so they can check the status. I then would like to have a total report to display on the inside !

Like I said, use an empty folder:

Root
Company
Servers
Server Up Time
Disk Usage
Printers
WWW-EMPTY
WWW
Routers and Switches

If you now create a report from the root folder, it will create a report of ALL checks. Running a report on WWW-EMPTY will create a report on WWW-REPORT and subfolders (if enabled) only. If you enable the skipping of empty folders, you will not see the WWW-EMPTY in you report.

This should be more clear:

Root
|
+---Company
|
+---Servers
|
+---Server Up Time
|
+---Disk Usage
|
+---Printers
|
+---WWW-EMPTY
| |
| +---WWW
+---Routers and Switches

In your hostmon.ini file under [Reports]:

[Reports]
SkipEmptyFolders=1

I am very glad Marcus help me answer questions. That's why we created forum, to see different opinions, not just official from KS-Soft

But I am afraid method with empty folder will not work on HostMonitor 3.56+. If you change Report settings for WWW-EMPTY folder, this folder and its subfolders will not be included to the report generated for Root folder. There are 2 solutions:

1) Do not create empty folder, do not change report settings for WWW folder (use default "inherit settings from parent" option). Just use "Generate report" action to create reports for WWW folder.

2) Download update http://www.ks-soft.net/download/hm358.zip and add one parameter "AlwaysWithSubfolders=1" into hostmon.ini file in [Reports] section. In this case HostMonitor will work like old versions (before 3.56). You will be able to change report settings for WWW folder and this folder will be included into both reports (report generated by Root folder and report generated by WWW folder).

Strange, I have version 3.57 and it works like I explained.

The trick is to create a non-inherited report on an empty folder (WWW-EMPTY in this example) and not on the subfolder (WWW). It still works fine for me!

I think it works because it's an empty folder and is skipped during generation of the report.

So my guess is: The first thing the report engine checks, is for an empty folder. If it is AND skipping empty folders is on, it just proceeds with the next sub-folder. In this case it has inherited settings and will take it from the first non-empty folder (the root folder in this example).

Or perhaps a bug ??

Probably you use report settings located in the Options dialog? In this case HostMonitor generates report including all subfolders, regardless of folder settings.

Probably report profile has some filters. Please, open Report Profiles dialog, select report profile that you use and check list of tests (e.g. Ping, TCP, Service) and list of statuses (e.g. Good, Bad, Unknown) to include in the report.
