Permanent problem with SMTP action

Post by rc »

Hello KS-Soft,

We have the following permant smtp error with our hostmonitor installation:

28.02.2008 16:45:22] Sys SMTP client error: Error reading ResultsMemo.Lines.Strings: Access violation at address 0042D520 in module 'hostmon.exe'. Read of address 3B8BF090

After restart of hostmonitor service it works correctly again, but after around 7 - 21 days the failure is back. The other actions and monitoring will execute normal at this time.

We use Hostmonitor V. 7.10 on Windows Server 2003.
We have 3600 tests and 12 tests per second.
We had this problem also with V. 6.82

I hope you can fix this problem, because email action is very important for us.

Best regards

Enrico

It looks like system is out of resources. Can you check resource usage for the HostMonitor.exe process when error occurs again? You may use standard Windows Task Manager to check Memory, Handles, GDI and USER objects. What is the total resource usage on the system?

Do you have installed some antivirus monitors, personal firewall, content monitoring software? Non stanard winsock components?
Usually such problems caused by Symantec, McAfee, TrendMicro antivirus realtime monitors.

Also, to workaround the problem, you may try the following trick. You should change SharedSection parameter, located at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\SubSystems\Windows registry key. By default, it is set as SharedSection=1024,3072,512. We recommend you to increase second and third values. So, you should specify SharedSection=1024,6144,1024

Please read following article for details: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/126962

Warning: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. we cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

Hello Max,

thank you for your answer.
We have no active firewall or antivirus monitor but I will try your workaround by setting SharedSection=1024,6144,1024 with Registry Editor.
