Problems with V7.10 ?

Post by JuergenF »

Today I recognized that several of my tests had a "Last test time" that is several hours ago. (different kinds of tests (SNMP / PING / ...))
The testinterval is set to 1 to 15 minutes.
So that looks very strange to me. Maybe that was before and I didn't see that ???

More and more tests seem to get stuck.
Some have last test time of 8:57, some 10:13, some 15:45
Others are running well.

Anyone else who has such a problem ?

What could be a reason, I don't know:
- Estimate load is 4 tests / sec
- Don't start more than 5 tests per second

Is there a possibility to see the Queue of tests that are waiting for execution ?

I manually "refresh"ed one of the tests. Now it seems to run on its normal schedule again

Any help or hint is welcome.
Shall I restart the service ?
W2K3 SE SP1, running as service

Best regards

Such behavior may happen when somebody played with system time. If time was changed back, you should manually "refresh" all tests, then everything will work fine.
Could you please check if "Last test time" shows today's date or it is set to future date? You may check log file as well.

I would recommend to increase "Don't start more than 5 tests per second" option. E.g. you may set 16. BTW Default value: 32

All from today, in the past, differnt times, over several hours
Logfile shows normal behavior until the test stops at the shown "Last test time"

That was done, because of fireing to many test to a single device.
I have Cisco Switches with 2 SNMP requests for each interface.
The switch nearly breaks down, when HM fires to many SNMP tests at te same time.
Therefore I asked for a feature "Don't start more than x tests per device / IP-address". As far as I know that is not possible today. So I changed the value to 5.

I'll manually refresh all tests and observe.

Many thanks

There is folder-level option: Non-simultaneously test execution.
With this option enabled tests that located in the folder will not be executed at the same time. Test items located in different folders may be executed simultaneously even in case option is set for all of these folders.

Is it possible to have this options as an inherited option?
Or have a button which set this options to all subfolder?
We have more than 600 folder. Setting up one by one, is a pain.

This is "special" option that you need in some rare, special ocasions (e.g. some ODBC driver does not work correctly or some network device cannot handle high load).
If you set this option for all folders, HostMonitor will not be able to perform more than 3600 checks per hour (usually even less). It will not be a real-time monitoring machine anymore.

If you have 600 folders then I assume you have over 6,000 test items. Do you really want to perform each test once in 3 hours? I don't think so.
