Unable to connect windows 2003 server

Post by mcclelland2007 »

We have mutiple windows 2003 servers that we monitor using HostMonitor and are having problems connecting to one of them. The two tests that we use are the CPU usage test and the Process test. These tests are run on two almost identical servers and doesn't work on one of them. The status message that is returned is "unknown". I have checked everything that I can think of and am out of ideas. The tests used to run without any problems and all of a sudden started coming abck with these messages.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

CPU an Process tests require admin priviledges. Have you specified appropriate account for these tests into "Connect as" box or using "Connection manager"? What account do you use to start HostMonitor? Are tests performed by the HostMonitor or by the RMA?

Please make sure
1) RPC service is started on target system
2) Remote Registry Service started on target system
3) PerfOS.DLL is enabled on target system
4) PerfProc.DLL is enabled on target system
5) Check if "admin" account has KEY_READ access to the following registry key on target system: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows_NT\CurrentVersion\Perflib.
To view/change permissions to the registry key you can use the registry editor utility (Regedt32.exe).

Microsoft provides "Extensible Counter List" utility: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en
This utility displays list of DLLs that are used to support Performance Counters, using the utility you may disable/enable specific DLLs.

According to the Microsoft, Error 1723 means: RPC server is too busy to complete this operation
Microsoft recommends to install SP 2 on your 2003 server.
