Unknown "committed bytes of use"

Post by kembitrs01 »

The counter of "Committed bytes of use" is unknown

I have 200 counters on different domain`s, but 1 counter in not working fine.
I have no idea what to do to fix this problem.

Maybe someone can help me?

Do you mean "Performance Counter" test returns "Unknown" status? What exact error do you see in Reply field? "Performance Counter" test method requires admin priviledges.

Please make sure
1) RPC service is started on target systems
2) Remote Registry Service is started on target system
3) PerfOS.DLL is enabled on target system
4) PerfProc.DLL is enabled on target system
5) Check if "admin" account has KEY_READ access to the following registry key on target system: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows_NT\CurrentVersion\Perflib.
To view/change permissions to the registry key you can use the registry editor utility (Regedt32.exe).

Microsoft provides "Extensible Counter List" utility: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en
This utility displays list of DLLs that are used to support Performance Counters, using the utility you may disable/enable specific DLLs.

Yes, it is. Thank you. We have been investigating your problem.
Could you provide more information, please?
- What version of HostMonitor do you use?
- What Windows do you use? Service Pack?

Do you use External mode for Performance Counter tests (option located on Misc page in the Options dialog)?
Test is performed by HostMonitor directly? or you are using RMA?
What Windows, Service Pack is installed on target system?
What version of PerfOS.dll is installed on target system?

I think i have found my problem.

PerfOS.DLL or PerfProc.DLL is corrupt. Is it possible tot copy the 2 files from a good working server, and overwrite the corrupt files? Or do i get more problems with this action?

It might be a reason.

I think, you may copy such dll's from another server. It should not lead to any problems. You may use "Extensible Counter List" utility to disable PerfOS.DLL and PerfProc.DLL before copying, and enable them after that: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en
