modem issue

Post by JUAN »

I just installed Host Monitor 6.54 in a new server, but pager function is not working. Modem is working in OS side. When it dial from Host Monitor, it shows "error opening COM port (TAPI1)". When I add "FixedPagingPort=COM1" in hostmon.ini file, the error is "initialing modem; the modem is not responding, releasing COM port -- OK"

Any suggestion about it?

modem type

Post by JUAN »

The modem is Blaster External V.92 and the driver I use is Creative Modem Blaster V.90 DE5625

The exact same modem works in our W2000 server

still not work

Post by JUAN »

We tried to install the newest V.92 DE5621 driver, still the same problem: work from OS, but not Host Monitor. It always say "modem is not responding..."

Any idea how to fix it?

Thanks

Ho do you check that it works with OS? Have you tried to use standard windows HyperTerminal utility to access the modem? Does it work properly on COM1?
I tried to find some information regarding your modem and it seems such modem has problems with Windows 2003: http://forums.creative.com/creativelabs ... 52482#M415

modem

Post by JUAN »

It did crash 2 times with old version, but it works fine with version 2.4.0.0. We tested using Hyper Terminal and it works. It just didn't work in Host Monitor.

Also this morning I switch to another modem: Courier V.Everything EXT PnP (V90-x2): same problem. Work on OS, not in HM.

What string do you use as "modem init string" parameter (option located on Pagers page in the Options dialog)?

it works now

Post by JUAN »

great, it is resolved. Once I changed the modem init string from auto to ATZ~, it works great now.

Thanks so much for your suggestion.

One more question: when I do test, most of time modem has following error "Error allocating memory for COM port or port is in use", after couple try, eventually it send out successfully, then it shows "can not release COM port" and close, even I set repeat "until status changes"

Following is my pager settings:
use device: creative modem blaster v.92...
Baud rate: 19200
modem init string: ATZ~
modem dial string: ATDT
all left check box are all checked (5 sec, 15 min)

Any suggestion about it?

it shows "can not release COM port" and close, even I set repeat "until status changes"
1) "Repeat: until status changes" option tells HostMonitor to start action after each test probe. i.e. every time test fails if you are using option for Bad action. E.g. if test fails every 5 min for an hour, HostMonitor will start action every 5 min for an hour - 12 times per hour. This option has nothing to do with modem problems.

2) HostMonitor closed status window because it tried to release COM port for 20 sec without any luck. So, HM records error and closes window.

Why exactly error appears? Who knows  Some TAPI/modem/DLL problem. Its very hard to investigate modem related problems when its impossible to reproduce the problem on our systems.
Could you send new debug.log to support@ks-soft.net?
