Accurate reporting of uptime for dependent test

Post by Steven »

Server has "ping" test and "RDP" test.

"RDP" test properties: master is "ping"; "synchronize counters" is ENabled, "synchronize status & alerts" is DISabled

From time to time we restart Server. When Server goes down "ping" fails and "RDP" goes to "Wait for master". Good so far! :)
But when it came back I checked the uptime before it went down and got this from my automated E-mail alerts:

Ping: Previous Status: Host is alive for 5 days 23:52:47
RDP: Previous Status: Host is alive for 51 days 15:15:15

Now, this makes sense because RDP was not testing while Ping was down. But how can I get a more accurate value? So that RDP also reports as being down when Ping was down.

We have a lot of dependent tests and I do not want to get an E-mail alert for every test if the parent goes down (great feature, btw). If RDP (or any other dependent test) goes down, I want to see it accurately. Meaning that "ping" shows it was up longer than "RDP" in that case.

So, my request is:
Please add a checkbox in the test properties for "sync master tests' downtime". When checked, the dependent would appear down in %StatusDuration% and %PreviousStatusDuration% whenever any of the masters were down, but it still does not trigger alerts everytime the master goes down. Hope I was clear and hope this is possible. Thanx,
Steven

Its possible but not easy. We have to implement additional internal counters and change logic... So, I cannot say when it will be done.
