HM doesn't send email by itself. It uses mailserver. You should specify masilserver, port and user/pass for your mailserver. You can do it in Menu > Options > Mailer Settings window.

If you see any errors, tell us what exact error do you see, pls.

I think you may have misunderstood my question:
I can send email if it looks like asdf.dfd@myserver.com
HM wont send the email if it is all numbers like
7407390090@vtext.com
To send a text message to a verizon phone you use
cellphonenumber@vtext.com.
I can send a text message to my phone form my email account to my phone using this method.
HM wont send an email with all numbers, I was wondering if there was some thing i needed to add.

Thanks
Frank

HostMonitor does not care about these number, it tries to send e-mail in any case. Probably your mail server does not accept the mail.
Every time HostMonitor tries to send e-mail, it shows log (HM<->SMTP) in the popup window. Please look at the log to see what is wrong

HostMonitor can send email to me at work, on our intranet, but It can't send email out to anyone else.

Here is the error message:
3/10/2006 3:40:04 PM] Open Done
[3/10/2006 3:40:04 PM] > MAIL FROM:<HostMonitor@otech.com>
[3/10/2006 3:40:04 PM] < 530 authentication required - for help go to http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/mail/pop/pop-11.html
[3/10/2006 3:40:04 PM] Mail Error #530 (530 authentication required - for help go to http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/mail/pop/pop-11.html)
Error: Cannot send e-mail to fcquaid@earthlink.net

HostMonitor has its own email account.
I can send email in outlook using this account but the application can not
Thanks for any help you can give me.

I think, your mail server doesn't allow you to send e-mail anywhere outside your intranet or you need provide username/password to complete authenification. Please, contact to your network administrator to figure it out.

I think, your mail server doesn't allow you to send e-mail anywhere outside your intranet
1) Mail server shows error before "RCPT TO" command
2) Mail server shows authentication error
So, it looks like Frank forgot to specify correct authentication method on "Mailer settings" page in the Options dialog.
