SNMP question

Post by sirz »

1.When I try to connect a router not in LAN,"SolarWinds 2002 CATV Engineers Edition" can quickly get the router's SNMP information and MRTG can grasp the routers traffic information, but Traffic monitor test in AHM report "can not connect to snmp agent.
2.When I use Trffic monitor to test my own network card, I compare the recurrences to the windows performence counter, it seems the recurrences doesn't mean kb/sec but KByte/sec,Why?This also happens when I compare the recurrences of a router agaist MRTG.
For example, when the recurrences of a router is 34kb/s,the MRTG is 2xxkb/sec.
3.The traffic monitoe show interface of a swtich with just numbers as '1,2,3,4....',but I only have cisco moudual number as "172.30.18.2/(f0/0)",how can I map it?
4.as shown below,it is a valid cisco OID,but I can't get it from a cisco swtich 4400 using AHM

Thanks!

MRTG is installed on different system, not where HostMonitor is running? May be firewall blocks connections from HostMonitor's system? Are you using correct port?
2.When I use Trffic monitor to test my own network card, I compare the recurrences to the windows performence counter, it seems the recurrences doesn't mean kb/sec but KByte/sec,Why?
"Recurrences" field displays the number of consecutive tests resulting in the same status as the current one.
Probably you are talking about "Reply" field? Yes, HostMonitor uses KByte/sec unit. What the problem?
.The traffic monitoe show interface of a swtich with just numbers as '1,2,3,4....',but I only have cisco moudual number as "172.30.18.2/(f0/0)",how can I map it?
HostMonitor also displays description of each interface (beside the number of the interface). Usually it helps to recognize interfaces.
4.as shown below,it is a valid cisco OID,but I can't get it from a cisco swtich 4400 using AHM
What responce do you see? "Invalid OID"?
Its single instance counter, have you added ".0" to the end? Should be "1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.109.1.1.1.1.5.0"
