I recently download Hostmonitor 5.12 and had been monitoring an exchange server (all process and services, hostname, perfmon, ping, etc) for about two solid days. This morning I noticed that I had several errors:
Win32 error #5 and #1722, cannot reach the device.
The computer that is our Host Monitor computer has a static IP and all DNS entries are correct.
So I tried to change the device name and use the IP address of the device and I still could not see the intended services, processes, Perfmon's etc.
So I DOWNGRADED to 5.10 and it did the same thing.
I read in a different thread that someone had this same issue with 5.12 and downgraded to 5.10 and all was well.
Not sure if this is a TRUE issue but I am concern that this was my only option.
Any suggestions
Thanks
Several issues Win32 error #5 and #1722....
Downgrade or upgrade HostMonitor will not help in this case.
Windows error #5 means "Access is denied".
Windows error #1722 means "The RPC server is unavailable".
HostMonitor is started as service or application? Under admins account?
What test items display this errors? Performance Counter only? Or some other, like "Service" tests display this error as well?
You are monitoring single domain? Or several domains? HostMonitor cannot reach hosts from another or the same domain?

Alex

Update on #5 and #1722
Here are the following:
<Alex> "HostMonitor is started as service or application?"
<abrand> "Is is started as a service"
<Alex> "Under admins account?"
<abrand> It is an Admin account
<Alex> "What test items display this errors? Performance Counter only? Or some other, like "Service" tests display this error as well?"
<abrand> "All of the above"
SIDEBAR: I HAVE SNMP ENABLED AND I AM ABLE TO SEE THE MACHINES USING THE OID'S
<Alex> "You are monitoring single domain? Or several domains?"
<abrand> "Several Domains"
SIDEBAR: AFTER A GOOD NIGHTS SLEEP I REALIZED THAT IF I PUT THE DOMAIN IN FRONT OF THE USERNAME THAT I WAS ABLE TO SEE CERTAIN BOXES. BUT I AM STILL HAVING TROUBLE WITH SEVERAL BOXES ON THE SAME DOMAIN?
- for example <domain>\<username, in the "connect as" portion of the monitoring items
<Alex> "HostMonitor cannot reach hosts from another or the same domain?"
<abrand> "Refer to question above"

I have a similar problem:
I monitor in 2 differents domains. Service is running with user of the domain where HM is installed.
I use domain\login and password for the domain I am monitoring in the tests I create.
When I reboot the machine I do not receive any warning or error from the tests (service start automatically) but when I start host monitor, several tests are in alert and emails are sent. I the go to the failed test and refresh and all is fine. I use hostmonitor 5.12. Also the even if the servivce is running the Icon goes in system tray only when I start HM interactively.
Thanks for your help.

We already spent a lot of time to investigate similar problems that usualy appears when HostMonitor is started in service mode. When HostMonitor calls Windows API to establish connection with remote system, Windows may use default account (account that is used to run software) instead of account directly specified for the host. Why Windows does this? We don't know<abrand> "Is is started as a service"
<abrand> It is an Admin account

Solution? If you may create account on remote system using the same user name and password that are used for local admin account, it may help. Uusualy it helps.
SNMP, Ping, TCP, IMAP, POP3, DNS, Trace, HTTP and other tests like these do not require Windows authentication. These tests use standard winsock functions, that's why these test methods work fine under any account.SIDEBAR: I HAVE SNMP ENABLED AND I AM ABLE TO SEE THE MACHINES USING THE OID'S

Possible reasons:Also the even if the servivce is running the Icon goes in system tray only when I start HM interactively
1) you have disabled "allow service to interact with desktop" option
Solution: enable ths option using standard Windows "Services" applet
2) you are running HostMonitor on remote system and accessing that system using Terminal Service
Solution: please read article http://www.ks-soft.net/cgi-bin/phpBB/vi ... php?t=1100
