This is interesting. Thanks for the heads ups. We're a Dell shop so I expect we'll begin seeing this shortly.
I'll have to go through some of the more detailed docs from Intel later but at this point, I just don't see how IPMI is going to make my life easier than SNMP. Will it replace SNMP or will vendors be forced to support both simultaneously?
Also, some devices are so different (e.g. A Dell 6600 server with RAID, a Cisco Catalyst, a Xerox printer, an environmental monitor) I fail to see how they can all be forced into the same mold -- at least no more so than with SNMP. |
