Hi,

I'm using HM for testing my switchs (10) and my NT server (13) by ping test (every 5sec.) I've got a master switch so that it is declarate in the "depend windows" of the other switch.
the problem is: if this "master switch" is down, some of the other are testing until the new test of the master is made. so instead of receive 1 mail that inform me that the master is down, I receive about 3 or 5 mail for the other one.
How can I synchronise my tests ?

Thanks and excuse me for my poor english.

I use "alert when 2 consecutive bad results occur". Then you are always sure that the master test is run before the slave test bad-action is fired. (as long as the interval time of the master test is smaller or equal than the slave test)

If you set test interval to 5 sec, you can decrease "Consider status of the master test obsolete after N seconds" counter. This option located on Behavior page in the Options dialog. It determines whether the Master test status is up-to-date.
There are quote from documentation:
Quote:
Consider status of the master test obsolete after N seconds
This parameter is used by the program to determine whether the Master test status is up-to-date. Before starting a dependent test HostMonitor checks the status values of the Master tests defined on it. The parameter mandates for how long a Master test status is considered to be current.

Regards
Alex

I do that. but It's the same....
Maybe could you put a new action in alert profil call "check master test" so that if the test is bad, it test the "master" and if master is good do the second action or if master is bad wait for master test....

thanks
Cédric.

Cédric,

I think new test is not necessary. You can set "Consider status of the master test obsolete after N seconds" to 1 second. In this case HostMonitor will always perform master test before dependant test.
H'm, I just saw HostMonitor does not allow you to set this option to 1 second, minimum value is 5 sec.
Ok, corrected. There are update http://www.ks-soft.net/download/hm323a.zip

Alex

Yes, minimum value is 2 sec, but why it doesn't work? I think If you set "Consider status of the master test obsolete after N seconds" to 2 second, everything will work correctly. Am I wrong?

Alex
