|
|
Hello,
Is there any difference in TCP connection test behavior between HM versions 4.86 and 3.71?
In HM 4.86 (also in 4.80) I cannot make TCP connection tests to return OK response. I’ve excluded the impact of:
- internal firewall (turned off),
- external firewall (tried on local ports),
- status and type of well known target services (80, 443, Oracle 1521,
VNC 5800 5900 – port scanner finds them active, dedicated HM tests
work fine)
At the end I’ve installed HM 3.71 and it works!
My environment is WinXP Pro SP1. In HM 3.71 I’ve used TCP connection tests to check the status of Oracle Forms Server, Oracle Reports Server and Lotus Domino service.

Sure, as you see version 4 supports more options for TCP test. However it works pretty reliable for year and a half.
Version 3.71 and 4.86 installed in the same manner (service/application, the same account)?

Same machine, same account, both as application.

Versions 3.71 and 4.86 use the same library to perform TCP connect. However there is difference in behavior when timeout=0:
- version 3.71 uses simple blocking socket (it waits indefinite time, until Windows return error or success code)
- version 4 uses non blocking socket with default timeout=2min
Could you try to setup timeout > 0? I assume both versions will report "No answer" status. Why? I don't know yet...
Do you have installed some non standard software? Some non Microsoft socket library? Some antivirus monitor?

PS You said you have some internal firewall? Firewall and HostMonitor installed on the same system? Most likely that firewall replaced some system libraries (DLLs). If you turn firewall off, system still use non standard libraries.... It could be reason...
