Do you need report like this one http://www.ks-soft.net/-/dashboard3.htm ?
BTW: Each cell represents set of tests (ping, tcp, etc) for a folder. If there are some "bad" tests, cell is red; if no "bad" tests but some "unknown" - cell is yellow; otherwise cell is green. Numbers - number of test items ("bad", "unknown" or "good").

Love it !!

What are you wasting time asking the question when you could be writing it !!!!

Can I also suggest that you have the cells go blue or someting if they are waiting for a master test.

Before we dumped it for Hostmon I always loved these views from Nagios.

Have a look.

Yes, you may click on cell. Even test report support this (but it does not provide real information..)

1) I am not wasting time. I am writing new IP-Tools, RMA and HostMonitor.
2) Its better to hear all suggestions BEFORE implementation that rewrite all code 10 times

So, discussion is not finished
For example: do you need option to specify subfolders depth (so you can choose to see main folder and 1,2,3.. level(s) of subfolders, or see whole tree). I think this option can be useful

How about an option on the test setup screen to have that on the grid and what info should be the label

Display on dashboard? yes/no (tick box)
Label in dashboard <name> (list box with options like parent folder, full path, test name or custom)

Catagory on Dashboard <name> (list box with test type, test name and custom)

The vertical colums should be the tests and the horizontal the description

so it would look like this.

-----------Ping---Cdrive---CPU---RAM---MyProc.exe---usershares---
Server1----------------------------------------------------------
Server2----------------------------------------------------------
Server3------------------------------------------------------------
Server4------------------------------------------------------------Server5------------------------------------------------------------

In this example I have chosen to have two tests on my Dashboard that only two of my servers are monitored for (these spaces on the grid would be grey for servers that don't have the test). Now this may look silly but if those tests are inportant to me then that is good for my needs.

I guess what I am saying is make it as dinamic as possible to a users needs.

Can I also ask if we are talking about a report here (run on a schedule) or a sort of quick view, read only interface to the test status ?

The latter would be my favorite, the one thing I would add to Hostmon if it was up to me would be a quick overview screen.

Just my $0.02 worth.

H'm... its very flexible but admins will need to make a lot of changes in order to configure new report (if they have thousand of tests)...

Yes, we are thinking about report.
Read only interface - its variant of the Web Service, of course it can be improved as well

In my humble opinion a report that looks like this is about 400% less usefull than a real time view.

This is the sort of thing that you have on a 40" plasma display bolted to the wall of your support department !!

reports are bits of paper to give to your managers to show that things are OK a Dashboard view is something that allows you to see whats going on in a split second.

I like the idea, but it is not necessary for our needs.

Question is - what is "real time" and what is not "real time"?

1) Report can be generated every time some status changes. So, report becomes a real time view?
2) Another example: HM generates report every 20 sec. Is this "real time" or not?

Since monitoring is not precisely real-time, a report that updates regularly on a small enough interval would provide a "real-time" dashboard view of operations. We have already deployed this with existing reports from KS, generating reports every three minutes containing only alerts conditions. This new format would facilitate our "snapshot" view.

YES PLEASE!!

I'm replacing Nagios and N-Able (we call it Un-able) with AHM and users are used to the "dashboard" view. This would be HUGE.
