Motorola Canopy

Post by dstj »

Yay...it now works with Motorola Canopy :)

I'm doing traffic tests and it appears as though everything is out by a factor of 10. Is it possible to add a multiplier anywhere ?

Also hoping to bundle 3 tests into one email notification, is this possible ?...instead of receiving 3 emails with 3 tests results.

Thanks in advance.

May be HostMonitor shows traffic using Kbit/sec while you want to see KB/sec? You may change units using test property or you may set units for all Traffic Monitor test methods using options located on Misc page in the Options dialog
- Display traffic using KB / MB units
- Display traffic using Kbit / Mbit units
- Select units considering test settings (threshold value)

It depends on how exactly you are using this "e-mail notification". Is it action started by HostMonitor when some test status changes? Is it kind of report that you send on specific time using Scheduler?

I just changed it to 'Mbit/sec' and it's reporting 0.12Mb...meanwhile the link is averaging about 1.2Mb/s. I'm not sure if it's off by a factor of 8 or 10....but it appears to be wrong.

Hoping to setup a test that when a SM (subscriber module) comes online, Hostmonitor will SMS/email the 'receive signal', 'jitter', 'delay' values from SNMP get tests of the SM.
I know i can setup 3 tests and receive 3 emails, but is there a better way. Maybe i should explore the report option you mentioned ?

Thanks

What version of HostMonitor do you use?
May we have read-only access to your Motorola Canopy?

If one SM comes online then another SM comes on-line and later 3rd SM changes status as well, how many e-mails do you want to receive? 1 e-mail after 1st failed/restored probe? 1 e-mail after 3rd failed/restored probe? 3 e-mails?

The latest download trial version.

They are all on private ip's...will look into setting one up on public ip for you to play (need time to do this).

Prior to rooftop installation of SM, hoping that i can setup a test where hostmonitor will email me the receive signal and jitter when i do my signal tests from customer's rooftop (it would make my signal testing and installations easier).

As I see latest version correctly calculates traffic. Why do you think it shows wrong value? Do you compare HostMonitor's results to value displayed by some other software? Which one?

Sorry, I still do not understand how exactly you want to setup alerts. If you want to receive 1 alert when all 3 tests failed and do nothing when 1 or 2 tests have "bad" status, you may use "advanced mode" action assigned to these 3 tests and expression like ('%::testname1::SimpleStatus%'=='DOWN') and ('%::testname2::SimpleStatus%'=='DOWN') and ('%::testname3::SimpleStatus%'=='DOWN') and (%Recurrences%==1)

If you need something else, please explain

I setup two tests ...one monitoring the Motorola Radio, the second monitoring the switch port that the Motorola Radio is connected to (see report)...
Test name Status Recurrences Reply Test method Alive % Dead % Total tests Passed tests Failed tests Average reply Min reply Max reply

Folder: Root\

Folder: Root\test\
Traffic: 192.168.1.243 (Motorola) Bad 4 0.13 Mb Traffic (192.168.1.243) 85.06 % 14.81 % 2222 1890 329 23 0 34200
Traffic: 192.2.12.105 (FastEthernet0/17) Bad 4 0.14 Mb Traffic (192.2.12.105) 20.00 % 80.00 % 5 1 4 0.2 0 0
I've asked that it alert if >1Mb/s which it does (Status = Bad)...yet the replies are only displaying 0.13Mb and 0.14Mb (which is wrong).

Here is a snippet of my switch port stats...
FastEthernet0/17 is up, line protocol is up

5 minute input rate 344000 bits/sec, 144 packets/sec
5 minute output rate 990000 bits/sec, 253 packets/sec
101018 packets input, 30959368 bytes

Don't know if this is related..

But I'm running 7.11, and testing traffic on all ports on several Cisco Catalyst 3500XL switches.. Old ones, I know..

Alarm threshold is set to 500Mbit/s, but I get alarm right now with a reply of 190Mbit/s
Any explanation to that...?

Could you please send HML file with tests and actions.lst file to support@ks-soft.net? Or at least export test setting into text and publish it here?

We cannot reproduce the problem. Also we checked our code, looks fine.
but I get alarm right now with a reply of 190Mbit/s
What kind of alarm? If that "alarm" is e-mail, you probably see status of the test? Is status was Ok, may be some other condition triggered this action (e.g. schedule or "advanced" expression)? May be that action was triggered by different test?
If you do not keep traces of the action somewhere, could you check log file to find details about test status?

I don't see how it could happen :(
Could you please check log, may be HostMonitor displayed 190Mb/s, not 190Mbit/s?

Thank you. As I see HostMonitor works correctly. Log file shows 190Mb, 190Mb = 1520Mbit that is well over 500Mbit so alert was triggered correctly.
I assume you are using "Display traffic using KB / MB units" option (located on Misc page in the Options dialog). That's why HostMonitor shows traffic using MB units for this test.

Probably it would be more correctly to use "MB" instead of "Mb" for megabytes but we keep Mb indication for compatibility with old versions / old log files, while HostMonitor uses "Mbit" for megabits.
