I upgraded to version 5.38. When I click on the "Help" menu item, it does not respond. What can I do to solve this problem?

Thanks

Ben.

Do you see hostmon.chm file in HostMonitor's directory?

Alex

Yes, I do. I copied this file to my workstation while setting up RCC and it works there. It just would not run on the machine where hostmonitor is installed.

Thanks.

It works when I type "start hostmon.chm" at the command prompt.

Looks like HostMonitor could not initialize hhctrl.ocx. Do you see such file in Windows\system32 directory?
Do you see registry key
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{adb880a6-d8ff-11cf-9377-00aa003b7a11}\InprocServer32 ?
If you do have a file and registry key, h'm.. could you try to restart system?

Regards
Alex

Alex:
I re-installed Hostmonitor for the third time and the help menu now works. This is very strange indeed.

Once again, thank you for taking the time to point me in the right direction.

The celebration was premature. This is what I found out. If I start hostmonitor as a service, the help menu does not work. The beta version installed in the Program Files\Hostmonitor5 folder; this is where I run the hostmon.exe /InstallService from. I also stopped the first instance of Hostmon5 before starting it as a service. I still have the older versions of Hostmonitor 3 and 4 in their respective folders. Do you think I have instances of these older versions in the registry that could be source of the problems?

I hope I am not ruining your vacation

Thanks,

Ben

No, old versions should not be a problem. So, HostMonitor shows help when its started as application but does not work when HostMonitor is started as service?
What Windows do you use? Service Pack?

Yep

I am running Windows XP Pro SP2 on the machine hosting Hostmonitor. Other than these minor glitches, this beta version is really an enhancement over the older versions.

Thanks,

Ben

I am confused a little. You said you upgraded to version 5.38. But 5.38 is not Beta. So, what version do you use?

My apologies, that was a typo error. I meant ver 5.64.

Thanks
