Treating pushed SNMP traps as different machines

Post by fletch »

1st Thanx for all of your past help. It has been right on.

I am sending SNMP traps from my Dell IT Assistant server (which monitors 1500 servers) to Host Monitor as described in your articles. It is working and receiving the traps. I can see both the good and bad traps coming in.

The problem I am having is that HMon, which is receiving the traps from my ITA server is treating them all as if they were coming from one server. An example is that ITA gets a bad trap from server 1.1.1.1 and forwards it on to HMon. About a half a second later it forwards on a good trap from server 1.1.1.2. When HMon receives the good SNMP Trap from my ITA server for server 1.1.1.2 it nullifies the bad trap from server 1.1.1.1.

How do I get HMon to distinquish between the IP addresses in the sent trap? As of right now, this is always green and it should have several warnings in it.

Thanx again,
w-

You should create separate test items - one item for each server.
Use "Any from the following" option for "SNMP device" filter.
