Hi,

We use filecount tests on some folders. (jpg files)
The files are dropped from differents sources. (sometimes macintoshes)
It happens there are special characters in the filenames (wich are not really supported on windows i think), but when HM count these files, HM crashes !! (without any error, warning, logging, ...)

Alex, I'll send you a mail with such file attached.

BTW: HM 4.86 on Server 2003

Regards,
Gert De Vleeschouwer

Tested HM on W2K, works fine. Unfortunately our Windows 2003 system is on maintenance now. Will check it tomorrow.

Regards
Alex

I tried it on my own system (XP / SP1) where HM crashes too with that file.

I see the 'special' characters in the filename of the attachment are stripped when mailed. (I tested with a on-line mailbox and via Exchange/Oulook 2003)

Gert

Alex,

I' ll send you the filename as part of a txt file.
Now you can copy/paste it on the filename of the jpg file.
Hope now you have the same (bad) filename.

Regards,
Gert

I did.
HostMonitor still works fine. Filename is really incorrect, e.g. some programs cannot access the file, cannot copy this file. However HostMonitor works fine on Windows 2000 and Windows 2003 systems.
May be reason of the crash as usualy some antivirus monitor? Do you have installed some antivirus monitor or some 3rd party encryption software?

>Now you see 2 dots on the i in the filename.
>When you go over it (with the arrow keys) you have to type twice. Right ?

Yes, I see 2 dots on the i in the filename. But I don't need to type twice. Are you talking about Windows Explorer?

Regards
Alex

Hi Alex,

I did some more tests.

I saw the file with the bad filename resides on a NT4 server. (while our HM runs on 2003)
When the file is on a 2000/2003/XP there is no problem at all.

Our NT4 servers will be migrated shortly.
Now I know it's only on NT4, it's not a really problem for me anymore.

Regards,
Gert
