Hi all,

I just recently installed Hostmonitor as a service. If I go back to running it as an application, I can use RCC both on the server and remotely to log in. If I run it as a service, I get the error: "InitializeSecurityContext failed. The specified target is unknown or unreachable" -- do I need to something else to allow login when it's running as a service?

HostMonitor authentication should work in both cases without any extra settings. I assume you are referring to Windows authentication mode?
Have you set domain account for HostMonitor service (Windows Services applet)?

Alex

yes account is setup and, like I said, When I stop the service and launch the application, without changing anything in the RCC client, it works fine.

I wonder if the windows firewall is configured to allow the application and not the port... let me check that.

I added the port 1054 into the firewall in case the rule hostmonitor put in only opened access to the application. That did not work.

It's the correct port because I get a different error if I try any other port; so the client sees something.

Its not firewall issue.
Could you try to start service using the same account you are using for application?
Windows version on HostMonitor system?
Windows version on domain controller?

HostMonitor authentication works fine?

Alex

Figured it out. I went to stop the service using the MS Service applet and discovered the servers was starting up under local system and not my Domain Account even though that's how I configured it with the wizard.

A lot of options and Windows related tests will not work under local system account.
