Event log message files

I am checking the event log for an IAS error and in the reply, it says message not found. I remember from awhile ago that the system checks locally for a .dll that contains the messages for the event log but I can't remember how it works. I looked in the registry but can't easily find what files the event log uses.

Can you refresh my memory on this. Thanks.

Ending up finding it in the registry. I had the .dll on the monitoring server and just imported the registry entries for the event source and it works now.

I am too late? Registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesEventLog<Log><Event Source> points to the DLL.
