|
|
Hello
I would like to see a feature where you could create a custom message as an alert action.
We have about 200 tests and it can be confusing when a pop-up message appears, and we have to think "hmm.. what did we do the last time we saw this message?" - so it would be nice, if you could add a larger text with some instructions on what to do, instead of the relative short Test-Comment-field.
I hope you understand what i mean, and if not then post below
Best Regards,

But you still want to store this information as test property because its not good idea to create 200 new alert profiles, right?
Then what is the difference between this new property and comment field?
Comment string can be long if you need...
Probably you just need bigger pane for comment in popup window displayed by the action?

Yea, i can see your point
But maybe there could be made a button to the right of the comment-field "Edit Comment", which would open a new window where you could type your comments - with some sort of format instead of a long sting.
I think that this feature would help to get a better overview of you comments made to the test. |

Actually this was implemented 9 years ago in HostMonitor version 3

Whoa, aren't we getting defensive now
It seems you only read half of what i wrote..
There might be a "Edit Comment" button, but this still doesnt change that there is no type of format, and it looks poor and confusing, when the Alert Message pops up. You have to scroll one line at the time, which would make it impossible to make any form of instructions on what to do..
Let me give you an example
If i would like to write:
"If the logfile of <server> gets too huge, and fills up the harddisk-space, follow theese instructions.
1. Open SQL Management Studio on <server>, and write this in a query:
USE <DatabaseName>
GO
DBCC SHRINKFILE(<TransactionLogName>, 1)
BACKUP LOG <DatabaseName> WITH TRUNCATE_ONLY
DBCC SHRINKFILE(<TransactionLogName>, 1)
GO"
I dont think this would be very easy to follow one line at the time.
What i wrote:
What it looks like:

I am not
Sounds like you need "Expand comment" button for "Popup" window instead "Edit comment" button for Test Properties dialog window (that already exists).
Am I right this time?

This sounds more like what im looking for
Im just looking for some way of making the alert-messages more user-friendly, if the usual HM-admin is out of the house

Popup window allows you to click on "Test info" button that open Test Info dialog with detailed information about test item, including user comments.
However, it you want to see comment in the same window, there is update for you http://www.ks-soft.net/download/hm907.zip
If you have installed version 9.06 then just unzip files and replace hostmon.exe and rcc.exe modules.
Now you may click on Comment label or double click on comment field to expand/collapse this field. Also [+] icon is displayed when comment has more than 1 line.
